Copenhagen is considered one of the world's best cities to live in, despite relatively high cost of living. This comprises goods and services, accommodation is quite affordable compared with other metropolitan cities such as London and Paris. The city enjoys extensive pedestrian network, connecting all the major attractions.
Stroget, a three-kilometer long pedestrian shopping street, inaugurated in 1961, is considered the longest in Europe. It hosts not only numerous boutiques, but various street entertainments. In Evening, especially between Nytorv and Hojbro Plads it is a bit like an impromptu three-ring circus, with musicians, magicians, jugglers and other street performers.
The city is known for low crime rate and absence of discrimination on almost any basis. It is frequented by numerous artists, immigrants, musicians, alternative cultures. This 24-hour party city host swirling nightlife in trendiest clubs. The Copenhagen Jazz Festival, one of the most celebrated in the world, attracts a number of popular European and American jazz musicians, and gathers flocks of visitors. Jazz is the universal musical language on Copenhagen scene.
Culture life has always been on the highest level, attracting prominent artists and writers. Arken Museum of Modern Art, Danish National Gallery, Danish Glytpothek are among top-class world museums. And, of course, the Little Mermaid - famous sculpture, commemorating the work of prominent writer Hans Christian Andersen.
The city has a wide variety of sports teams. It is home to Denmark's two leading football clubs, Brondby IF and FC Kobenhavn. The Danish Australian Football League, based in Copenhagen is the largest Australian rules football competition outside of the English speaking countries.
There are also three ice hockey teams : Rodovre Mighty Bulls, Herlev Hornets and Nordsjalland Cobras. There is both a men's and a women's handball team, and both teams play in the highest league. Both of the handballteams are owned by FC Kobenhavn and share the same name and logo.
